Everyday Essential Oils

As you may recall, my husband and I recently became Independent Distributors for Young Living Essential Oils.  This has by far been one of the best decisions we have made for ourselves physically, emotionally and financially.  We love the oils and use them everyday!

Here are a few ways we use our oils:
  • Ryan takes peppermint with him to work and inhales the aroma whenever he needs an energy boost.
  • We put a few drops of peppermint in a glass of water when one of us has an uneasy stomach.
  • We rub Peace & Calming on our sons feet to help him calm down before naps and bedtime.
  • I put a few drops of lemon in the bottom of the trash can to minimize odors.
  • I use lemon and lavender in some of my homemade cleaning solutions.
  • I put lemon in my water to purify it and to give it some flavor.
  • I use lavender as a deodorant.
  • I use Valor for my TMJ.

A Month of Cleaning: Day 15

Please feel free to leave me in tips/suggestions for how to clean my washer.  I prefer to use natural cleaners, if possible.

A Month of Cleaning: Days 11 & 12

Recipe Inspiration Source:   Tub and Shower Magic

It's not perfectly spotless, and that's fine with me.  I still need to find a way to get discolorations out of caulk.  I also want to find a way to get ride of ALL the hard water deposits on the chrome fixtures.  Other than that, I'm very pleased with this process for cleaning my showers.  Next time, however, I'm going to try using Seventh Generation Dish Soap in an effort to use more natural cleaners.

A Month of Cleaning: Day 6

Happy Cleaning!

A Month of Cleaning: Days 4 & 5

Nothing too fancy for these two days of cleaning, just an old cloth and some water.  What I love most about this method is:
1.  It's completely environmentally friendly (no waste is produced and no chemicals are used).
2.  It's  economic (the dish cloth was being re-used and a few spritz of water isn't going to break the bank).

The most difficult part of this cleaning task was moving the larger pieces of furniture so I could dust behind them.  I pretty much had to wait until my hubby was home before I could tackle these areas.  Fortunately, he's a really sweet guy and is always willing to help me with tasks around the house.

A Month of Cleaning!

Alrighty folks!  This Friday I will be six months pregnant.  I've already noticed that getting down on my hands and knees - or more accurately getting up from being on my hands and knees - is becoming more and more difficult.  What does this have to do with cleaning?  A LOT!  It's difficult to clean baseboards, floors, floor cabinets, etc. without being on your hands and knees.  At least I have yet to find a trick to avoid doing so.  All that being said, I've decided to clean our house this month, while I can still get up and down on my own.

Here are some of my goals I plan to accomplish throughout my month of cleaning:
- Learn about and use natural cleaners.
- Learn about and make my own homemade cleaners.
- Cut back on waste - i.e. no paper towels.
- Re-organize my cabinets - more practical and efficient storage.
- Share what I learn with you!

Since my hubby is home on Saturdays and Sundays I've decided to do my cleaning Monday-Friday.

Here's the cleaning schedule I came up with:

Download and Print my Cleaning Calendar Here or Here.

As you can see, the first three weeks focus on specific areas:
- Week 1:  Floors
- Week 2:  Kitchen
- Week 3:  Bathrooms

The rest of the month I'll be cleaning fixtures and spaces throughout the house.
